The NFA is a law. Only Congress can repeal a law so it's never gonna happen.

That might be a good idea. Regarding the law being enforced at the federal level, he could put the brakes on that very quickly. He can also sue the federal govt or consider others to do so to get it in front of the Supremes. They'd likely kick it back down though. The quickest path would be an executive order putting a moratorium or such on it. That would stimulate a very quick judgement which would likely put it on the fast track to the Supremes.
