The "Maverick Act", something no one has seen in 20 years since

The "Maverick Act" just passed in the US Senate and will be headed to the House now. What is the Maverick Act? Short version, it will transfer 3 aircraft from inactive storage at Davis Monthan AFB "boneyard" to the care of U.S. Space and Rocket Center Commission in Huntsville, Alabama. The purpose of which is to allow the commission to enter into an agreements with qualified non-profits to restore and operate the aircraft for public displays, air shows and commemorative events to preserve "Naval aviation heritage". The 3 aircraft are bureau numbers 164341, 164602, 159437. You can look them up if you want but I can just tell you what they are. Those 3 planes are F14D Tomcats.

These particular planes were supposed to be put on display after they were retired in 2006. But the display sites fell through so they have remained in long term storage at the bone yard. The F14's on static display all over the country were stripped of electronics and demilled by making cuts into the titanium wing box. That is the part that holds the wings together and allows them to swing. They will never fly again. But the ones in the boneyard were store in flying condition with the intention of flying them to a final static display location where they would be stripped of parts and demilled as well.

32°08'49.22" N 110°50'06.16" W that is the google earth location of the 3 Tomcats along with the carcasses of several more that were cut up.

I don't know if you ever saw an F14 Demo flight but I have seen a bunch of them and they are without a doubt the coolest demo flight there is. It can't do the stop flying thing like the F22 thing, but for raw power it is hard to beat.

Coming soon to an airshow near you, maybe.
