Back in The Saddle Again - Rampy - 06-04-2026 Before I retired from the AF spent 2-3 hours in the gym every day off & depending on duty spend 1ish hour every night out in the missile complex Spend almost a hour a week in the gym on the county fire department and after that….nope, not been in a gym since 2005 😬😬😬😬😬 In the rehab hospital I did enjoy the recumbent bike and resistance machine and drove the physical therapists crazy pushing so hard but never followed up with it Now I’m planning on starting out 3 days a week for 30 mins and working up to 1 hour and who knows from there Will be strange going on base to the gym as it’s full of military so we shall see if we stay on base or find a gym off base. On base is “free” just not sure what all they have as far as resistance machines so we shall see…… Trying the muscle supplements thing to help with building muscle since us old folks loose muscle mass and struggle to maintain & build it Protein 1-2 hours before going, hydration during (salts & minerals) & specially formulated recovery/repair muscle post workout and then a “snack” or meal replacement protein bar. Everything is low/zero carbs & zero sugars
RE: Back in The Saddle Again - Rampy - 06-04-2026 The 9th is my pre op with the cardio thoracic surgeon so…..hopefully I’ll have a couple weeks to get into the gym routine before….. Think I’ll go puke now….. RE: Back in The Saddle Again - hkriflenut_aka_sasquatch - 06-05-2026 Just don't over do it when you get back in - be a real pain if you hurt yourself pushing too hard too fast. Good to hear that you're getting back to it. I need to get in more often myself. I just got bumped to nights last week and that schedule change coupled with the every-persistent honey-do list is making it difficult to get to the gym. I'm planning to do much the same. I have to get my sugar down. My last A1C was 10.1! I'm getting things ready for my tables at the gunshow next weekend. After that I'll move all the crap piled on and around the Bowflex and Treadmill in my garage and get to work. When I look in the mirror I'm shocked to see how much muscle mass I've lost over the decades. I'm upping my protein intake and lowering the carbs. Again. You report on your progress and I'll report on mine. Maybe we can keep each other motivated. That’s a problem I have, tend to push to hard to fast. Scared the crap out of the physical therapists at the local hospital while the VA’s physical therapists knew how to guide and channel my pushing so hard hopefully the wife will help keep me from overdoing things I had one physical therapist who understood and helped me to learn how lazy the brain actually is and after you push it so hard it actually hurts you RE: Back in The Saddle Again - Rampy - 06-07-2026 (06-05-2026, 09:05 PM)specops56 Wrote:(06-04-2026, 10:14 PM)Rampy Wrote: Before I retired from the AF spent 2-3 hours in the gym every day off & depending on duty spend 1ish hour every night out in the missile complex Having that equipment at home is excellent, I’d love to have a bowflex. Have a elliptical but I can’t do it more than a couple minutes before the back really acts up & walking is a real painful thing My A1C is up but only to 7.8, day gum it… Funny how life never works out how you want it Monday I’ve got a couple cardio pulmonary appointments at the VA & the wife a post op ENT down in Colorado Tuesday AM is my cardio thoracic pre op appointment down in Colorado (going to the best of the best specialist’s available in the region and the hospital does the vast majority of complicated surgeries) Tuesday Afternoon have a VA audiologist appointment, hearing test and fitting for hearing aids… Have to schedule a nerve conduction test, colonoscopy & nephrologist appointment but only doing those after the surgery Have a buddy who said one day at a time, we are blessed to be able to grow old while many of our friends did not have that blessing Hopefully this fall we can reschedule our DC trip, want to vid sit friends in ANC and see the capital. Also had a week in navy lodging on Ft Story/Little Creek outside of Norfolk so we could sit and watch Navy ships…. Been told dam neck is awesome as well if we can get into navy lodge there |
