So, my son is kinda disappointed with his Henry lever .44 mag lever gun. It won’t group accurately and the action jams. He’s getting rid of it. This season he borrowed my daughter’s CVA Cascade 350 Legend and he loves it.

I told him I’d support getting g rid of the levergun if we replace it with a revolver for deer hunting. A Taurus is under $1k and a Smith or a Ruger is well over $1k. Will the Taurus be Ok? I want 7-9” barrel. Full lug is better. Scope mount dovetails preferred.

Recommendations being accepted. Aaaaaand go!

Since you're our resident H&R 32 magnum expert, I have some questions. My thumb joint arthritis is not getting any better. While I can still handle full power 38spl;, it's no longer fun. I know you've recently switched to the 32 and would like to hear your experiences, opinions and recommendations. What have you learned of it's effectiveness against actual bad guys? What non boutique ammo would you recommend? Anything else that would be useful for me to know in making a decision on whether to switch.

Thanks brother!

I posted this on another forum and rather than type it out again here's a copy and paste.
Last night a friend showed me his mauser pistol. He'd like to shoot it but couldn't find ammo. Hmmm, the 3 old rounds he had looked like 25acp so I went home and did a quick search. Yep, it's the 25acp.
It was given to him by a widow who's now departed and who knows when it was last fired. It's a strange little pistol to me, what looks like a slide release is the safety and only inserting the magazine releases the slide. I watched a video and stripping it is pretty simple.
I didn't examine it closely but I couldn't see any rifling at the muzzle. A thorough cleaning is on the agenda for Monday as well as using my loupe to look for cracks. I haven't done it for years but I love getting the old ones up and running again.

Ultimate Carry 32 Magnum’s from the gunsmith, now need to go pick them up. The one on the right has titanium cylinder so it’s like 3 oz lighter……

They came in for trigger work. These 2 had an average 11.5 to 11.75 pound triggers. Which is an improvement over the 12 to 15 pound triggers of the standard J frames. However, after my level 1 trigger job the now have a 9.5 pound trigger. Smooth as glass and with a re-contoured trigger and polished chambers they are ready for action

With me being a big 1911 guy, I've always wanted a dedicated 1911 in 22, or at least a good conversion upper. I've been eyeballing them for a long time, and had a couple frames sitting here with hopes of finding a upper.

It finally all came together this week when my local gun shop had a used Kimber custom II 45 come in with a Kimber 22 target rimfire conversion kit. Interestingly the kit came with double stack PARA mags, but thats not big deal. I have some proper mags on the way.

One of the frame options I had sitting here for the eventual 22 build was a Kimber alloy frame. It's no secret that I am a big fan of alloy frame 1911s, and I threw that upper on that frame.

Boy, it's even better than I had hoped. The alloy frame is very light weight with the alloy slide, and the whole gun weighs less than my Ruger mk4 22/45 lite.

The real deal sealer was the accuracy. I don't have any magazines so I had to single load it. I fired a couple rounds at a 45 caliber hole in a USPSA target to see where it was hitting which was about a inch and a quarter low, and held accordingly. This group was 10 rounds at 10 yards.

Can't wait for the magazines to get here so I can really go to town with this thing.

We often talk about shooting being a diminishing skill, and to stay a good shot you have to shoot.

I’m not a great shot. I’m decent at best but I can usually reach my accuracy expectations I set for myself.

Last week I acquired a few new 6 guns and was getting very, VERY frustrated with the accuracy results I was getting at 25 yards. I switched over to a known gun and load and still couldn’t shoot worth a hoot, and even went as for as having my eyes checked and got reading glasses to see if it helped me see the sights better (it didn’t)

It finally occurred to me that maybe I just haven’t shot a six gun enough lately, so I grabbed a 1911 and proceeded to shoot several 2” groups at 25 yards.

That one hurt a bit, so today after I got done with my chores I grabbed my Ruger Blackhawk 45 colt and several boxes of 45 colt handloads and headed to the range. I started at 7 yards and basically very deliberately forced my self to do all the right things, and once I got a group I was happy with I stepped back and started again.

The final two groups at 25 yards I was happy with. The card on the left was shot offhand with both hands, and the card on the right was shot single handed. if you notice, I actually only have 5 hits on the right card, but oh well.

Guess I’m gonna be spending some more time with six shooters in the coming days.
