Calling all 7.62x39 experts! Headstamp ID needed.

I have a 50 cal ammo can full of loose 7.62x39 rounds my late friend gave me and I need to identify the manufacturer.

I suspect it may be Chinese but I may be way off base. I haven’t counted how many rounds but the can is full to the top. I’m also trying to determine the value before the gunshow I have tables at next weekend. Thanks in advance!

I bought out an estate today, bunch of reloading stuff, black powder, old shotgun shells and ammo of various sorts. Among the treasure was a single loaded AR mag. I popped the 1st round out and it was a WCC 83 so I figured screw it, I’m just gonna step over to the range and burn this through one of my carbines. My 16” Radical carbine was in the truck, so I dropped the mag of 62gn varmit grenades and loaded in the estate mag. Figured I’d just burn it on some fast and sweet close range action, and started at about 18 yards. Cleared the plate rack, and then the dualing tree, and then started in on some alternating double taps on my 2 AR500 full size silhouette targets. Ran a few fast double taps, and when I swung back to the first target I noticed a VERY shiny spot, and halted firing to inspect.

Turns out the mag was loaded with 3 rounds of FMJ and then a green tip, repeated all the way to the bottom.

Luckily I didn’t hit too many of my plates with those, and they didn’t do too much damage, but still, I guess that’s what I get for not checking the whole mag.

I've never been much of a shotgun guy. Ive had a few over the years, and currently have 4 of them. I've often promoted them for home defense, But I've always used a pistol and a lever action myself (Current one is a 44 mag carbine)

Now I do have a Mosserg 590A1 as well as a Turknelli both kept loaded with 1oz low recoil slugs, but recently decided maybe I'd be better off with buckshot. I haven't messed with buckshot much in any of my current shotguns, so I decided to pattern some loads from the 590 and realized that my buckshot stash was pretty much depleted.

Now two things I do know about shotguns. This first one is something I've noticed across the board, but its especially noticeable with the 3.5" magnums, more velocity means more spread. And the second is something I never relly played with much, but I was told when I used to shoot 3 gun that 8 pellet buck will usually pattern better than 9 pellet. Now I know that some companies produced 8 pellet 00buck but I've never seen it here in Alaska. My load of choice was 2.75" 8 pellet 000buck as I felt like it hit harder and patterned better than 9 pellet 00buck. 8 pellets of 000 also weights more than 9 pellets of 00. I don't know what the percentage difference in mass per pellet is, but the 000 is about 20 grains heavier per pellet.

Now the problem - I can't find 000buck anywhere right now. I ended up buying a case each of cheap S&B 9 pellet 00, and Federal Flight Control Tactical 9 pellet both in 2.75" shells. Neither of these is a hot rod load, with the federal moving at an advertised 1145fps.

Im curious to see if the flight control wad will be enough to mitigate the 9th pellet flier. The cheap stuff doesnt look to have a shot cup, and is also not plated with anything. While it does not say so on the box, I do believe that the flight control is copper plated.

Will be interesting to see how much difference I get in pattern with these 2 loads

I saw an ad for .22 COLIBRI. I’d never heard of them, but apparently they’re the modern version of a .22 CB. They are a powderless .22 long? Maybe? Or is it a long rifle brass? Do they increase the primer to propel without additional powder?

Anyway, it brought back a flood of memories.

When I was a kid, in a close suburb of Chicago, one had very few options for ridding the space under the front porch of vermin. I set up a round conibear trap and caught one opossum. Turns out she had a pouch full of toothy little rascals. The jill was dead but the joeys were alive and still clinging to her carcass. I dumped the whole mess into a garbage can full of water and pushed it down with a concrete block. We went to dinner and afterwards the problem was solved. Dad didn’t want a repeat, so he just threw away the old trap, opossum, babies, and all (I think he was afraid if I caught something and the trap didn’t fully kill it).

Dad got me a Have-A-Heart trap and I made a catch pole and went to work. I caught (I don’t remember) several more opossums and a couple raccoons under there. Not knowing how to dispatch my catches without attracting undue attention, he got me some BB caps and some CB caps. I would drag the critter out of the trap, hold its head down by the basement floor drain with my catch pole, and put a CB or BB in their ear from inches away with my revolver. The BB caps worked, but not well. The CB caps did better.

1) I miss that old Herter’s single action .22 I traded it when I traded up to my Ruger Super Single Six 9” (still have it).

2) I plugged my nose and skinned those opossums. I learned to ring their feet, neck, and tail (from an article in Outdoor Life) so I could leave the hide whole and unsplit. We froze them and next time we went to the furrier near my Uncle’s place in Iowa, I sold them. They said that they were skinned properly and handled correctly and they gave me $3 each. After that I wrapped the carcasses in doubled garbage bags and threw them away- nobody should touch and smell an opossum for $3
