I posted this on another forum and just copied and pasted it here.
I showed a friend my opinel pocket knife (I sharpen it like a kitchen knife, I don't mind resharpening it frequently, the carbon steel doesn't take long.) and he asked me to sharpen some of his knives. Two Gerber's, one sog and a beautiful little 70s era 3" case fixed blade later he asks me to sharpen his kitchen shears. I've never done that before. A little YouTube and I discovered there's no voodoo involved, it looks easier than sharpening a knife.
The shears are a touch loose so I tried to tighten them but the nut backs off a tic when you open and close them. Rather than scratch them, I ordered a spanner type screwdriver to fit it from good old Jeff Bezos mercantile. I'm thinking a drop of loctite is in order. Nice shears by the way, very old wustoffs.
He has a landscaping business and tells me I should start a sharpening business since he spends a lot on sharpening and there's always a waiting list here. He showed me a few of his mower blades and wants them sharpened. Dang, there's nothing quicker than sharpening and balancing those.
Honestly, I don't think I'm that good, but I suppose I'd improve with practice.
Level 1 - Short term: Grocery store canned and dry goods.
Level 2 - Short term turns into mid term: MREs.
Level 3 - Mid term turns into long term: Commercial freeze dried & dehydrated food + home dehydrated food.
Level 4 - Permanent TEOTWAKI: Beef jerky, garden seeds, the fish pond 1/4 mile from my house in the neighborhood and the local deer, rabbits, possums, squirrels & raccoons I’ve been feeding in my backyard for the last 20 years.
As for water: There is a creek that runs through the woods behind my house as well as aforementioned fish pond, buckets for rain and multiple water filters.
[FPC News] FPC Moves to Strike Down Massachusetts Gun Ban

BOSTON (November 20, 2025) — Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) today announced that it has filed a motion for summary judgment in Escher v. Noble, its federal constitutional challenge to Massachusetts’ sweeping ban on the possession and carry of semiautomatic firearms and handguns by law-abiding adults under 21. The motion urges the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts to strike down the Commonwealth’s age-based prohibitions, arguing that the Second Amendment protects these adults and that the state cannot point to any historical tradition supporting its categorical disarmament scheme.

Crossing a State Line Shouldn’t Make You a Felon Right now, your Second Amendment rights are under siege in anti-gun states across America. But you have a powerful opportunity to fight back by supporting H.R. 38, the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act. H.R. 38 would finally ensure that your concealed carry permit is honored in every state across the country, …
Read more
I'm not opposed to folks getting wealthy, I'm a capitalist at heart. That out of the way, the story of the rookie football player getting burgled blew me away. Thieves made off with $200,000 worth of stuff from Sheduer Sander's home. 200k in belongings and he's a rookie?
So, I had to look him up. Being the son of another pro football player, I guess he had some money before being drafted but still, 200k in things that could be carried away? That's more than my net worth! I don't have a problem with sports stars making lots of money, they work hard to hone skills I don't have.
When I was younger I fantasized about winning the lottery and all the things I would buy but now I'm getting a little too old to take care of a ranch. At this point I'm content with what I have and can't imagine living in a mansion or things like that. It would be nice to win a lottery, mostly to have the means to help friends out. A big shop and a 600 yd range would be nice too but other than that what in the heck would I want?
