Big Beautiful… Botch-up? - srjdsmith - 07-01-2025

So, Senate Parliamentarian, RINOS, House version, Senate version, Public lands sale…

I guess I can wait until it gets signed, then everybody will be talking about it. I just want to know; are the NFA busters still in? SBR’s, suppressors…?

I just don’t want to pay the exorbitant prices PLUS another $200 AND another record the ATF has with my name on it… to buy or build a suppressor. I just want to save what’s left of my hearing. I just want my granddaughter to shoot without damaging her ears in the first place.

Does anybody know if cancelling the tax on suppressors and SBR’s is in the bill that passed? Will there still be a form to the ATF?

Your guess is better than mine. Last I heard, the 2A stuff had been deleted by the RINOs, but that may have changed two or three times since I heard.

It's too early to tell. Washington gun law stays on top of developments as good as anybody.

I guess I have my answer. A bunch of “2A advocacy” groups agreed to a deal and sold out their membership: the NRA and even the FPC, and others. They agreed to elimination of the tax stamp, but the registration and forms are still in place, SBR’s and suppressors are still fully ATF regulated and all the next administration has to do is reinstate the tax. We essentially won nothing.

I thought that too but here is the rest of the story:

Here in California Del Norte, formerly known as Washington, removal of suppressors from the gca68 would make them illegal to obtain. Here is a cut and paste from rcw 9.41.250.
(1) Every person who:
(a) Manufactures, sells, or disposes of or possesses any instrument or weapon of the kind usually known as slung shot, sand club, or metal knuckles, or spring blade knife;
(b) Furtively carries with intent to conceal any dagger, dirk, pistol, or other dangerous weapon; or
© Uses any contrivance or device for suppressing the noise of any firearm unless the suppressor is legally registered and possessed in accordance with federal law,
is guilty of a gross misdemeanor punishable under chapter 9A.20 RCW.
Since the form 4473 isn't a registry, (yeah, right) we wouldn't be able to purchase one if they're removed from gca68.
Now that I've read it again, subsection c says any person that USES one would be guilty so I guess I could still purchase a new one but not be able to use it.
