Spokane fires - tommag - 08-04-2026

By now I'm sure you've all seen the news about them. They've destroyed a bunch of houses. Fortunately for me, this is downwind of me about 4 miles.
The Spokane rifle club is currently closed, pending damage assessment. It was squarely in the path of the Indian trail fire and I doubt there's anything left. It was established in 1925 and you know how cities have a way of expanding. We've had a lot of legal issues as a result so I'm thinking rebuilding will be fought tooth and nail.
Several fires have merged into two big ones but they've already arrested one guy for "allegedly" starting the Indian trail fire. Turns out he's served time for killing his father over an argument about washing the dishes. I suspect he's a connoisseur of fine amphetamines.
Anyway, it's smoky as hell over here, (many other fires in the area) and I came down with pneumonia last week. The smoke isn't helping that any, but hopefully the steroids and antibiotics will knock it down.

We now have a fatality from the fire, a bed ridden lady in a nursing home. News says the sheriff is investigating the possibility of additional charges, doesn't seem like much investigation is needed there.

Uh, I think I'd be investigating why she wasn't evacuated from that nursing home. Staff seems to have been criminally negligent.

I don't know the whole story, but I believe she was burned while being evacuated. The fire was incredibly fast moving and hot.

My brother-in-law has a cabin east of Merritt, B.C. He had to evacuate a few days ago and drove right past the fires when he headed back to Vancouver.

Google Maps is marking the fires.
