New Uniden Scanner

A lot of the agencies here are going to Starcom21. Apparently the SDS150 will handle it, but it seems like just an Illinois thing which makes me believe it is somehow kickback related. Motorola gets a huge contract with the state, politicians get a kickback from it and the state can then monitor in real time all the radio traffic by the local agencies. My guess is they are using it to enforce the "sanctuary" status for illegals. Probably have AI listening for anything that might indicate an illegal alien or cooperation with ICE.

Motorola has it's fingers in everything. My old agency tested a Motorola CAD program along with several others. No one liked the Motorola system, it was at best a 3rd place option. They ordered their first choice, got halfway through the process, and Motorola bought the company and killed the product. Went to #2, placed an order, and the same thing happened. Got stuck with the Motorola product, at 3x the cost. They also tried to get other manufacturers to bid on the new radio systems, and several others submitted very good bids, that were less than 75% of what Motorola was going to charge. A few trips for communications folks to "consult" with Motorola engineers in tropical locations later, they wound up with Motorola systems. Strangely, two of the communications folks retired, and are now full time "consultants" to Motorola. Seeing the ongoing costs rising dramatically now that the agencies involved are stuck with that equipment and it would cost 3-4x as much to start over, and the political fallout would be immense, it's just turned into a funnel for tax money to the big "M". My area agencies aren't alone, this is what they do all over the country, and they're working on doing it all over the world.
