North American Arms Rule 1 22WMR

Looks like I lucked into a North American Arms Rule 1 .22 WMR pistol and have absolutely no idea about 22WMR ammo let alone out of such a small pistol

Anybody have knowledge to share about the 22WMR & what brand of ammo to avoid and what’s good for a rule 1 gun (always have a gun)

I've never shot any .22 mags out of a barrel shorter than 4" and then never anything with a body larger than a porcupine. The CCI Gold Dots had picture perfect expansion on porcupines out of the Kel Tec PMR30. Those that got stopped were just under the skin on the off side and they looked just like the ones in the advertisements. The ones that hit bone were mangled but held together. Out of a rifle they are pretty explosive and I only found bits of them, penetration was way less than from the PMR. I've heard good things about the Federal "Punch" load but not shot them myself.

Sounds like it’s more “powerful” than I expected, don’t really know how effective it would be, but I’m getting it for a steal, NIB never fired and shipped to my FFL. Even with transfer fees I’m still saving enough to go find some ammo 

Federal Punch is cheap compared to Gold Dot’s from what I’ve found on line

In my experience, .22 mag is pretty stout. The muzzle blast from that short barrel will be bad on you as well as the target.

I had a freedom arms 22 mag mini revolver, pretty sure the NAA model was bought from Freedom. One thing I remember was the hammer spring was a flat spring and I had to replace mine once due to breakage. I'd keep a spare one on hand just in case. I still have a spare somewhere in my parts box. If I find it I'd be happy to mail it to you.
All I remember about ammo is that the fmj round was an acceptable coup de grace when the muzzle was placed in contact with the forehead of a whitetail. It wouldn't have been my first choice, but it worked. (Yeah, I was young and stupid. I'm old and stupid now.)
It would be interesting to chronograph one and see what kind of velocity that short bbl produces. In a rifle the 22mag is no slouch. With my savage the 33gr bullet punched through a t post on my fence. I'm sure the mini revolver wouldn't be fast enough to do that.
Oops, I looked up ammo and it was the 30gr bullet that punched through a t post.

The 22wmr used to be known as the poacher's rifle due to its relatively quiet report. Of course, more than one shot would help someone key in on the location of the poacher. Today with the proliferation of suppressors I'd imagine that's not the case anymore. I consider it to be a good varmint round out to 100-150 yards.
