I've seen this same sort of statement about "critical condition" first hand before. Was for a car accident the person was deceased but next of kin was not yet notified. Until the NOK was notified they were "in critical condition" and "undergoing treatment". Soon as family was notified it changed.
Praying that's not the case here.
