Gunshow

I've got a table at the local gunshow this weekend. I'm heading to the fairgrounds in about 2 hours for dealer setup. Need to move some excess stuff and raise some cash for my heat pump and roof. I'll try to remember to take a pic of my table.

I'm back from dealer setup. This is my first time with the new owners. I started doing the fairgrounds show back in the early 90s. This will be the third owner of this show since then. They have a really stupid and annoying new rule. While all gun shows require the actions on the guns to be zip-tied, they also require all guns to be, literally, tied down to the actual table. I had to borrow some paracord. It seems they had some gangbangers create a disturbance on one side of the room while others grabbed guns off tables on the other side and ran out with them at the last show. I tried to assure the promoter that in nearly 40 years of doing gunshows, no one has ever gotten away with stealing ANYTHING off my tables. He didn't care. I have 2 rifles and 2 pistols on the table and the cord runs from one leg of the table, through all the guns and then tied to a leg on the other end. So now I'll have to untie everything and then retie it when someone buys a gun.

I forgot to take a picture of my table so I'll take one in the morning and post it when I get home. I'll let y'all know how the show goes.

I finally got a picture:

This was not a very profitable show for me. Saturday I sold one rifle, an old Alpine M1 Carbine, a 300 rd case of WOLF .308 FMJ and a 200 rd case of Federal 9mm FMJ. That was it for the day. The crowd was good until about 1 pm and then died to almost nothing. Today, it was slow all day. The only thing I sold today was a $30 knife set.I made more than my table fee so that’s something. The only thing I bought was 3 MREs to review.

That' just the way it goes. I've been doing gunshows for 40 years and no two are alike. I've had shows where I didn't sell anything the whole show. I've done a few where I sold literally everything I brought on the first day and went home. Most have been somewhere in between. This one I had a few hundred left after my table fee so it still helps. I reserved my table for the December show. Should do better then.

Our gun shows here (Dubuque, Iowa) are pitiful. I’ve stopped going. Many tables don’t have guns and some don’t even have firearm-related.

One good thing I can say about the new promoters is that they have a rule that 90% of your table must be guns and/or gun related. No flea market tables.
