Howdy!

I am glad someone picked up the remains of the old Armory and built something. I lost track of most of the old forum about the time Covid hit, but wasn't active on the old forum for some time before that. Couple of folks passing kind of took the wind out of the sails for me.

How has everyone been?

Hey hey hey. You made it. I’m not on here much but check in to see what’s up.

I recently retired from both my state jobs and now am working part time driving again.

These are the two trucks I’m running currently. The red one is assigned to me and I’m on end dump duty currently.

Brother, you've got more guts than I. During my somewhat brief trucking career, I tried running end dump only a few times, and I was always afraid I'd dump the thing over if a breath of wind caught me.

I have a few more years before full retirement. After leaving my last career, the auto parts world seems to still be a decent fit for me. The corporate world is just like I remember it.

I tripped over the old Facespace group, saw a link here, recognized some familiar names.

Glad to see the new career is still working out for you. After 24 years in my inspection job I had to get out. I was at my limit. I had started working teaching at a college doing logging, log truck driving instruction and that was going to be my retirement gig. Long story short the college did not secure my employment after I retired and I had to leave the college or face penalties from Calpers. I left them stranded with no instructor for the log truck. They had ample time to secure my employment but failed. I met my current boss through an old friend of 25 years. I ended up going to work for him on a part time basis. I'm currently working every day but things will slow down this winter and I will get to enjoy my free time a little.

I'll admit certain things with this new job I may not care for......that long four axle tractor is one of them. I hauled a 980 Cat loader into and out of town and making corners takes a while lot of planning and very wide turns. I'm just not used to that kind of driving after 21 years away from driving and the last three year running log trucks. The red truck is fine and it pulls a 48' hydraulic tail step deck equipment trailer that I should get along with. I am very new to end dumps and was taught how to dump one way and one way only.....safely!   I have access to the loaders so I make sure my ground is perfectly level before I back in to dump. I will take zero chances. The trailer is borrowed and my boss hates it. he told me not to flop it over because he would have to buy it, then fix it, then sell it. He is actively looking to buy a newer end dump. This one has leaky lift cylinders on the gate and it does not close properly. I have to double check it closes right before ever leaving the dump site.
