Is it true? Is it true?
By my interpretation, they're no longer 'classified' as anything other than firearms. So you call 'em whatever floats yer goat.

Al long as the Iowa DNR calls them ‘pistols’ I can hunt deer with them during the ‘muzzleloader’ season when the legal method of take is a muzzle-loading rifle .50 cal or greater or bow, or pistol (including AR pistol).

Ok, then, because I’m curious does this mean I can build a suppressor? Clearly a regular manufactured would be much more precise and effective. Just because I sometimes like to build things instead of buying them already made… that’s why I have a room full of tools. I like making things. Can I make a suppressor without incurring the wrath of our benevolent overseers?

It sounds like you can, but your state might not agree, mine definitely wouldn't.

William Kirk explains things pretty well in this video, including a strong potential for bad things when the administration changes, ie: your homemade suppressor or SBR could turn you into a felon even though it's ok now.

Looks encouraging but I'm still unsure about the status of states like PA?  Is it good to go ...or no?

Since Pa is on the list of states that require federal approval I would say no, it's not. You'd need better guidance than I can provide though, I didn't even stay at the Holiday inn.
