started a job

I started last week doing maintenance and repair on yard equipment for a landscaping business.  Maintenance is easy but I'm not a gear head so repairs are slow. Hopefully I'll get better at it.
It's taken a week to get acclimated to moving around and doing stuff, I was really tired and sore for a few days. Nothing strenuous, just more than I'm used to. I bought a folding table for a workbench and put a 150# mower on it so I could work standing up. I was reminded that I'm not 20 anymore, I think I found my limit.

I retired last year and immediately found part time work hauling equipment. It was tough getting back into real work even though it was not full time. I did not do much over the winter and my work moved south so my boss sent my truck south.

Then he recommended a part time job I could do and here I am at 60 years old rigging for a crane company. I drive truck hauling counter weights and then rig on the jobs.

Totally blindsided to the industry. I have worked under 275 and 110 ton cranes and I am currently in Oregon on a four day job. It’s supposed to be part time but that has yet to happen. My old body is protesting a bit like yours.

Wish I could work 😔😔

Have a service connected surgery coming up then cataract surgery if I make it thru the surgery, have to have a cardio thoracic surgeon standing by just in case his skills are needed

Only good thing is the hospital does the most open heart surgery’s in the region so if they end up cracking my chest…..

Hope you're feeling better Rampy and that your surgeries went well.

Started a new gig myself this last week. I've been doing wholesale auto parts sales for NAPA, and wanted something more challenging. Almost on a whim I applied for a job that sounded fun, never thinking I stood a chance of getting it. Careful what you ask for, you just might get it. Turns out they're almost doubling my salary, essentially to travel around the country and help fix broken NAPA stores. I'm going to be gone from home a bunch, but with the youngest graduating high school in a few weeks, it won't be so bad. In my prior life, the wife and I only saw each other 1-1.5 days a week if we were lucky, or 10-15 minutes a day and we were able to make everything work, so this should be much of the same.

Congrats on the new gig. If you ever down my way let me know.
