I retired last year and immediately found part time work hauling equipment. It was tough getting back into real work even though it was not full time. I did not do much over the winter and my work moved south so my boss sent my truck south.
Then he recommended a part time job I could do and here I am at 60 years old rigging for a crane company. I drive truck hauling counter weights and then rig on the jobs.
Totally blindsided to the industry. I have worked under 275 and 110 ton cranes and I am currently in Oregon on a four day job. It’s supposed to be part time but that has yet to happen. My old body is protesting a bit like yours.

Have a service connected surgery coming up then cataract surgery if I make it thru the surgery, have to have a cardio thoracic surgeon standing by just in case his skills are needed
Only good thing is the hospital does the most open heart surgery’s in the region so if they end up cracking my chest…..

Started a new gig myself this last week. I've been doing wholesale auto parts sales for NAPA, and wanted something more challenging. Almost on a whim I applied for a job that sounded fun, never thinking I stood a chance of getting it. Careful what you ask for, you just might get it. Turns out they're almost doubling my salary, essentially to travel around the country and help fix broken NAPA stores. I'm going to be gone from home a bunch, but with the youngest graduating high school in a few weeks, it won't be so bad. In my prior life, the wife and I only saw each other 1-1.5 days a week if we were lucky, or 10-15 minutes a day and we were able to make everything work, so this should be much of the same. Congrats on the new gig. If you ever down my way let me know.

Today I took 6 6v batteries to have them checked. Learned you could see signs of kaput ones visually. Little swelling in top of case near terminals indicates internal corrosion. These were wired in series for 48v golf carts....hmmm, that's only maybe 39v at full charge. Convinced the boss to buy 6 8v ones to do it right
He has about 20 assorted batteries in the junk pile. Charging one overnight and will bring my 2 chargers tomorrow. Ordered a 6-12-24v tester from Bezos' mercantile so we can clear out a segment of one shop. Gotta remember to grab a couple pallets to put the bad ones on. I'm actually enjoying having a routine to adhere to.

It’s complicated, my surgeon has to partner with another surgeon & then schedule OR /recovery time
Still waiting to find out when I’ll get cut open, my surgeon’s surgery scheduler said it’s hard to make everything line up due to the complexities that could arise & they always schedule for worst case scenario to ensure best possible outcome
so I’m in a holding pattern
