New Uniden Scanner

Been thinking about getting a scanner as the local individual who was broadcasting to scanner app has stopped

While the military are encrypted law enforcement, fire and everything else is not encrypted but on a silmulcast p25 trunked system so my old scanner is useless.

The new SDS 150 scanner looks really promising, it even has a built in GPS and can scan as you drive using a radio reference data base and more

Only problem is it’s stupid expensive but they do offer discounts

Hummmmmmmmm…….

A lot of the agencies here are going to Starcom21. Apparently the SDS150 will handle it, but it seems like just an Illinois thing which makes me believe it is somehow kickback related. Motorola gets a huge contract with the state, politicians get a kickback from it and the state can then monitor in real time all the radio traffic by the local agencies. My guess is they are using it to enforce the "sanctuary" status for illegals. Probably have AI listening for anything that might indicate an illegal alien or cooperation with ICE.
Motorola had the state radio contract called wyolink back when I was on the VFD and it set up talk groups across the state so if you were in Jackson home you could talk to every corner of the state, went from lots of dead zones to no dead zones and fire could talk to highway patrol

From looking at radio reference they have the bugs worked out and it’s thriving
Locally here, the SO has gone to using cell phones for dispatch more than radio. Scanner doesn't help with that.
