The OBD code was P0336 "Crankshaft position sensor" when I checked it. I did read up on it and there can be multiple causes. One of the least bad ones was the timing belt. I'm guessing on that as my wife said there was a very slight noise when it quit. Maybe the sound of the belt snapping?

I was in a truck once when the timing belt snapped- the little Dodge Ram 50. Fortunately, it was designed not to shear the valves. We replaced the belt and were on our way. My Chevy Classic, however, was a different story. The timing (chain, I think) went and smoked the whole engine. I went car-less for about a year and half after that.
