This morning I got the call I knew I would get. My friend passed away this morning about 5:30am. 2 weeks ago she got some sort of bug and was puking for a couple of days. She didn't want me or the kids catching it so she sent us away. I went back without the kids and told her I wasn't going to catch whatever it was. After that she just couldn't keep food down. I started bringing her popsicles to eat. She could keep them down and she needed calories of any kind. I even looked into medications for nausea, she had gotten zofran before and had a reaction to it and whatever they were giving her wasn't helping. SgtAR15 would be proud, I landed on a marijuana gummie website that said they help greatly with nausea. I talked to someone who works at the local dispensary and picked out a gummy that was supposed to help with nausea. So when I went to see her I asked her if she thought she could eat a piece of candy. She said she thought maybe and I asker her if she had ever heard of marijuana gummies.
Here is an 82 year old woman, as straight laced as can be found and I was expecting her to say, "No, I'd never partake of the Devil's lettuce" instead she said, "Oh, I love those, they help me sleep and help with the pain, I can't do more than 25 milligrams though, I get too loopy with the bigger amounts". I was gobsmacked. this little old lady was a weed fiend. And then she said,, "I should have an order coming in the mail, do you think you could bring some?" I said I would see what I could do so when I left I called her sister and she said there were bottles of them in the refrigerator at the house and she would check with the nurses to see if it is OK. So, I retrieved the weed gummies from the house the next day. The nursing home staff said it was OK but we needed to get the approval from the medical staff. So, I couldn't giver her one last night, but she ater her popsicle and enjoyed it. She was very tired so I sat with her until I had to leave.
She's not in pain any more, she's back with her husband. Pain is for the living and I am feeling it now. The kids took it pretty hard but they are tough, tougher than me I suppose. I'll start getting the guns up for sale shortly. With the time I spent at the nursing home with her I didn't have much time to work on that.
