I’ve never owned a Ruger revolver debating about getting one of these, not really sure what to think about them
My wife had an sp101. We both liked it. They are built like tanks.
Had a basic .38 SP-101 decades ago. Later traded it even for M1 carbine.
The sp101 with stock grip and full house 357’s can be a handful. I carry a 2 1/4” with modified grips that is my most shot gun. I have two comp 1 speedloaders that are packed with it.
I recently made a wardrobe change and needed a different holster style. I thought a shoulder rig might work under my shirts but after buying it and trying it there is no way it will work for me. I need to sell that shoulder rig cheap and get rid of it. I just bought a kydex iwb holster to try. My pants are loose enough currently to give it a go. I’m wearing western shirts tucked in and can no longer carry owb. The great thing is my new job allows me to carry. I have had two jobs where carry was off limits so now that I can carry while working I need to get my gear in order for my work attire.
That's a nice gun. My 101 is a 4". I need better grips, full house loads are a bit.... rough. I've taken to carrying it pretty often in an open belt holster in the woods. I finally got access across the creek on the back half of our property, and I spent most of my off time this summer clearing it of scrub alder trees and thinning the fir and hemlock. With lots of cougar and bear on game cams, I don't work out there without carrying something substantial.
Strange coincidence, my prior profession encouraged carry, open and concealed. My current one tends to dislike it, which means I'd better not get caught, so I carry something they won't ever notice. The new Lipsey’s J frames are incredible, I’ve got these in 32 H&R and have 6rds, never leave home without one ![]()
